Kenya Electricity Generating Company (KenGen) has assured the public that safety was not compromised after a wind turbine at its Ngong Wind Power Facility caught fire on Tuesday, January 20, 2026.
In a statement, the company said the blaze broke out during routine operations in the afternoon. “All personnel at the facility were safely accounted for, and the affected turbine was offline at the time, ensuring there was no disruption to electricity supply to the national grid,” KenGen noted.

The power producer added that all other turbines at the facility remain fully operational. Its safety and technical teams, working with regulatory authorities, have launched a full investigation to determine the cause of the fire and assess the damage. KenGen assured that corrective and preventive measures will be implemented once the investigation is complete.
“Safety remains a core priority in all our operations,” the company emphasized, promising further updates as more information becomes available.
