The Kajiado County Education and Vocational Training Committee, chaired by Joshua Saigilu (MCA Loodokilani), conducted an inspection visit to Meto Vocational Training Centre (VTC) in Kajiado Central on October 14 to assess the condition of the facility and the overall learning environment. The exercise aimed to evaluate the institution’s capacity to provide quality technical and vocational education in line with the county’s development goals.
During the visit, the Committee established that the institution continues to face several challenges that hinder effective skills training. Among the issues raised were a shortage of instructors in key departments such as tailoring and hairdressing, insufficient classroom space to accommodate the growing number of trainees and the absence of a dormitory for male students, which forces many to seek accommodation far from the centre.

Tutors also appealed for immediate intervention in the Motor Vehicle Mechanics department, where most of the available tools and the training vehicle are outdated and inconsistent with modern market requirements. They emphasized that updating the equipment would greatly enhance the trainees’ hands-on experience and improve their employability upon graduation.
The Committee further noted that the institution lacks a consistent water supply and relies on donkeys to fetch water from a nearby source, a situation that interrupts learning and workshop activities.
Saigilu reaffirmed the Committee’s commitment to work closely with the relevant county departments to address these concerns. He emphasized that the county remains dedicated to improving facilities in all vocational training centres to ensure that learners acquire practical skills that meet current market demands and support self-reliance.
