PS Kimotho Rallies Kenyans to Embrace Tree Growing

Kenyans have been urged to take up tree growing and environmental conservation as a national responsibility in the fight against climate change and ecosystem degradation.

The call was made by Principal Secretary (PS) for Irrigation, Ephantus Kimotho, during Mazingira Day celebrations held at Ngong Township Comprehensive School in Kajiado County.

Presiding over a symbolic tree planting ceremony, Kimotho led the planting of ceremonial fruit trees alongside indigenous and exotic species. He emphasized that every citizen has a role to play in restoring the country’s environment and building a climate-resilient future.

“Tree planting is not just a development goal; it is a patriotic duty that calls on all Kenyans to take action in preserving our environment for future generations,” said Kimotho.

The PS urged individuals, schools, and institutions to adopt sustainable practices and contribute to increasing Kenya’s tree cover. He also called for the integration of environmental education into school curricula to instill a culture of conservation among young people.

“We must empower our young people with the knowledge and values to become responsible stewards of nature,” he said. “Investing in value addition and sustainable production will help communities build resilience while protecting the environment.”

The day’s activities extended to Ngong Bus Park, where residents, local leaders, and environmental champions participated in a clean-up and tree planting exercise aimed at promoting urban greening and community ownership of public spaces.
