Kajiado Governor Joseph Ole Lenku has announced that the county has achieved a significant improvement in its Own Source Revenue (OSR), recording a 41 per cent increase compared to the same period last financial year.
While delivering his State of the County Address at the Kajiado County Assembly chambers, Lenku said the county’s revenue collection has steadily grown since 2017, when annual receipts stood at less than KSh500 million.
In the 2024/2025 financial year, collections reached KSh1 billion, and the current target has been set at KSh1.6 billion.
“As at January 31 this year, we had raised KSh401,956,528, a 41 per cent improvement in comparison with the same period in the last financial year. We are very hopeful that we shall hit our target,” Governor Lenku told the Assembly.

To enhance efficiency and convenience, the county is transitioning to a fully cashless revenue collection system. Lenku revealed that a USSD code, *295, is undergoing final configuration and will be launched within a week, allowing residents to pay taxes and levies directly from their mobile phones.
Revenue collection functions have also been aligned with respective sector departments to strengthen operational efficiency and service delivery, while maintaining centralised oversight under the County Receiver of Revenue.
This alignment is expected to improve departmental ownership of revenue streams and ensure closer coordination between service delivery and revenue collection.
Lenku reaffirmed his commitment to reforms aimed at reducing leakages, improving compliance, and enhancing public confidence in county revenue administration. He directed the County Executive Committee Member for Finance and Economic Planning to ensure full implementation of the OSR strategies.
