Kajiado Finance Committee Decries Revenue Loss, Calls for Automation to Curb Corruption

The Kajiado County Assembly Committee on Finance, Economic Planning and ICT has raised alarm over massive revenue pilferage across the county, blaming runaway corruption for the failure to meet own-source revenue targets.

Speaking during public participation forums held at Kumpa in Purko Ward and Namanga in Matapato South, committee members described the situation as shameful and detrimental to development.

Committee member Stephen Ngatho warned that the county’s inability to collect sufficient revenue directly results in stalled or incomplete projects. “Without proper revenue collection, development remains a mirage,” he said.

Committee Chair Jackson Angaine proposed full automation of county cash collections as the solution to leakages and manipulation. He emphasized that digitizing revenue systems would enhance transparency and accountability in public finance management.

Hon. Joshua Olowasa urged residents to stop giving cash directly to revenue or enforcement officers, noting that such practices fuel corruption and undermine the county’s financial integrity.

The public participation forums are part of the ongoing consultative process for the Annual Development Plan (ADP) 2026/2027, with each ward allocated a specific day for engagement.

Today, the committee shall visit the area MCA’s office at Mile 46 before joining residents of Dalalekutuk and Ildamat Wards.
