Women and youth in Kajiado receive economic boost

Women and youth groups in Kajiado County received a major economic boost on September 30 when County Women Representative and Kenya Women Parliamentary Association (KEWOPA) Chairperson, Sopiato Leah Sankaire, launched an empowerment program in Najile Location, Ewuaso oo Nkidong’i Ward.

The initiative targeted women, youth and people living with disabilities drawn from several polling stations including Najile, Olng’arua, Olokirding’ai, Olentoko, Olodung’oro, Sairrashie, Ilparakuo, Enkusero Keri and Osero lempeut, also known as Osero Onyokie. The program was designed to strengthen grassroots groups through the provision of tents, chairs, cash support and catering equipment to promote self-reliance and economic growth.

Najile Women Group, Olng’arua Women Group, Osero le mpeut Women Group and Olokirding’ai Women Group each received a 100-seater tent and 100 chairs. This support is expected to help them in hosting community events and generating income through hiring services. Olentoko Women Group, Olodung’oro Women Group and Sairrashie/Ilparakuo Women Group were each issued with Ksh 130,000 to boost their projects.

Youth empowerment was also given priority. Oloirien Youth Self Help Group received Ksh 130,000 while Ok Self Help Group, made up of young people, was equipped with full catering equipment. In addition, Enkusero Keri Women Group and Naiborr Omom Women Group also received full catering equipment to support their ventures and expand income-generating activities.

Sankaire noted that the program was part of her wider commitment to uplifting women, youth and people living with disabilities in Kajiado County. She expressed gratitude for the love and unwavering support from residents, emphasizing that community partnerships are central to achieving sustainable empowerment.

The initiative added to ongoing efforts across the county aimed at providing resources, financial assistance and equipment to grassroots groups. By focusing on women and youth, the program seeks to promote economic independence, create opportunities and strengthen resilience within communities in Kajiado.
