The Kajiado County Government has issued a 14-day notice to individuals and businesses operating on road reserves to remove all illegal structures and cease trading activities along the affected areas.
In a public notice dated March 6, 2026, the county said the directive targets developments and businesses that have encroached on road reserves within and outside urban centres across the county.
The notice was issued by County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Lands, Physical Planning, Housing, Urban Development and Municipalities, Hamilton Ojwang.

According to the county, the enforcement is being carried out under Sections 55, 72 and 73 of the Physical and Land Use Planning Act, 2019, which prohibit unlawful developments and obstruction of designated public spaces such as road corridors.
Officials said several developers, traders and individuals have erected temporary and permanent structures on road reserves or are conducting business activities that block the free movement of vehicles and pedestrians.
The affected developments include kiosks, roadside stalls, signboards and building extensions projecting into road reserves. The county also cited the sale of construction materials along roadsides and other trading activities that obstruct traffic.
County authorities warned that such activities not only disrupt traffic flow but also pose safety risks to the public and undermine orderly development in municipalities, towns and market centres.
“All affected owners and occupiers are hereby directed to voluntarily remove the illegal structures and stop trading along road reserves within fourteen days from the date of this notice,” the county said.

Business operators have also been advised to keep their merchandise strictly within their premises and restore any altered road reserve areas to their original condition.
The county warned that once the notice period lapses, it will move in together with relevant enforcement agencies to demolish the illegal structures without further notice.
Any costs incurred during the removal exercise will be recovered from the individuals or businesses responsible for the encroachments.
