A digital registration campaign rolled out by the National Council for Persons with Disabilities (NCPWD) is transforming access to essential services for hundreds of persons with disabilities (PWDs) in Kajiado County.
The initiative aims to streamline certification and expand opportunities for beneficiaries across the region.
The exercise is guided by the Persons with Disability Act, 2025, which guarantees registered PWDs access to scholarships, assistive devices, legal safeguards, and a share of government procurement opportunities.
Officials say the digital approach is helping eliminate long-standing barriers that have kept many from obtaining the crucial disability certificate.
Speaking during the drive, County NCPWD Coordinator Iman Ali described the initiative as a major step toward equality and inclusion, noting that the council had already registered 20 individuals on the first day alone, marking significant progress in reaching underserved groups.
Ali emphasized that many PWDs have previously struggled with the process due to lack of identification documents, high registration costs, and long travel distances.

She encouraged more PWDs to take advantage of the ongoing registration.
While speaking to the media, beneficiaries welcomed the initiative, saying it would ease access to educational and economic opportunities. Erastus Obare Nyakundi, one of the applicants, said the certificate would help reduce the financial strain his family has faced in seeking support services. Others expressed optimism that the program would uplift the deaf community and other marginalized groups within the county.
The digital drive has also made the certification process completely free. eliminating the KSh300 fee previously charged.
Applicants are required to present a medical assessment form, national ID, and for minors, a birth certificate and passport photo. One can also register independently through the eCitizen portal by uploading the necessary documents.
