Kenya Power ends manual applications, new connection requests exclusively via website

Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) has announced that all new electricity connection requests will now be processed exclusively through its website, marking a complete shift from manual applications.

In a recent notice, the utility said customers seeking new connections must submit applications digitally, either via computers or mobile devices. The company will no longer accept paper-based requests at service centres or banking halls.

However, beneficiaries of the Last Mile Connectivity Project will continue to be engaged directly by Kenya Power officials during on-site implementation, but for all other customers, the directive takes effect immediately.

Managing Director and CEO Joseph Siror said the move is part of the utility’s broader transformation agenda aimed at improving efficiency and transparency. “Digitisation is central to our strategy. By streamlining how customers apply for electricity, we are building a modern utility that is responsive, inclusive and transparent,” he said.

Siror added that the online system will help curb fraud by reducing opportunities for impersonation. “We have had cases where rogue individuals posed as Kenya Power staff and conned customers. With this new system, we are confident such incidents will significantly reduce,” he noted.

To ensure a smooth transition, Kenya Power has deployed Business Development teams across the country to assist customers in navigating the digital platforms. The company has also adopted a multi-channel approach, allowing applications to be submitted through whichever online platform is most accessible to users at any given time.

The utility said the digital shift is expected to shorten turnaround times, enhance convenience, and make electricity access more reliable for households and businesses nationwide.
