Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has appointed Michael Yator as the new County Commissioner for Kajiado, in a strategic move aimed at enhancing service delivery and strengthening government coordination in the region.
The appointment is part of a broader restructuring of the National Government Administration, following public feedback gathered during the recently concluded Jukwaa La Usalama forums. Murkomen said the changes are designed to match officers’ strengths with the unique challenges of their new stations.
“To improve service delivery and address security concerns raised by residents, we are restructuring the National Government Administration. These appointments and transfers are guided by the need to match officers’ strengths and experience to the challenges of their new stations,” Murkomen stated.
Yator’s deployment takes effect immediately, with the Cabinet Secretary congratulating him and other officers as they assume their new roles.

Elsewhere, five other counties also received new County Commissioners: Joseph Mwangi Wamuti – Tana River, Linda Adhiambo Okola – Taita Taveta, David Ntawuasa Saruni – West Pokot, Jeremiah Mwai Gicheru – Kericho, Peter Mwangi Maina – Vihiga
In Nairobi, the government has created three new administrative subregions: Nairobi North, Nairobi East, and Nairobi West, to better manage the capital’s growing population.
Rose Wanjiru Chege will oversee Nairobi West, Patrick Simiyu Werre will head Nairobi Eastand Simon Odhiambo Osumba will lead Nairobi North
Murkomen emphasized that the restructuring is part of a national plan to decentralize services, reinforce security, and improve coordination across all counties.
