Taita Taveta officials bench mark in Kajiado on Amboseli reversion success

The Kajiado County Assembly on Wednesday, November 12, hosted a high-powered delegation from Taita Taveta County in a bench marking visit centered on governance, devolution, and natural resource management. The visiting team, led by Taita Taveta County Assembly Speaker Hon. Anselm Mwadime, comprised senior officials from both the County Executive and the Assembly, including the County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Finance and Economic Planning.

They were received by Kajiado County Assembly Speaker Hon. Justus Ole Ngossor and Clerk Mr. Leboo Saisa, who officially welcomed them to the Assembly precincts. The engagement aimed to share insights on Kajiado’s recent milestone achievement in reclaiming Amboseli National Park to the County Government — a development that was formally confirmed by President William Ruto during a public function in Amboseli last Saturday.

During the session, the visiting team sought to understand the processes and collaborative frameworks that enabled Kajiado to secure the reversion. They explored key aspects such as stakeholder consultations, intergovernmental coordination, and legislative interventions that contributed to the successful outcome. The delegation noted that these lessons would guide their county’s ongoing efforts to advocate for the reversion of Tsavo East and Tsavo West National Parks to the Taita Taveta County Government.

The visit reflected the broader objective of promoting cooperation among devolved units through shared experiences and policy learning. It also reinforced the commitment of both counties to strengthening devolution by aligning local governance with equitable management of natural resources.

Such exchanges demonstrate the power of collaboration in driving county-level progress, where knowledge sharing and unity of purpose remain central to Kenya’s devolution journey.
