Kajiado County marks key victory in campaign against FGM

Kajiado County First Lady Edna Lenku today led a powerful gathering of women leaders in a milestone event celebrating progress in the fight against Female Genital Mutilation (FGM). The ceremony, held in Kajiado, brought together members of the County First Ladies Association (CFLA) led by their chairperson, Alamitu Guyo Jattani from Marsabit County, alongside spouses and partners of Kajiado County MCAs.

The event marked a turning point in ongoing efforts to eliminate FGM and promote the rights, health, and dignity of girls and women. It symbolized a collective commitment to build a society where every girl can thrive free from harmful cultural practices.

The Anti-FGM celebration also coincided with the start of the one week Maa Cultural and Tourism Festival taking place at Amboseli National Park through Saturday. Following the ceremony, the First Ladies joined the festival to further promote cultural pride and positive transformation across the Maa community.

While addressing participants, Edna Lenku applauded the community for taking bold steps toward abandoning FGM and embracing practices that promote equality and growth. She reaffirmed her dedication to advancing programs that safeguard and empower the girl child.

She further emphasized that the fight against FGM demands a united front ,engaging men, women, youth and leaders alike to ensure a just and safe environment for all girls in Kajiado and across the country.

The event drew participation from county and national leaders, civil society groups, and development partners.
