Governor Lenku commissions solar-powered borehole and market projects in Namanga

Kajiado Governor Joseph Ole Lenku has commissioned a new solar-powered borehole in Namanga, Matapato South Ward, as part of his administration’s ongoing efforts to improve access to clean water and promote economic growth in the border town.

The newly completed borehole produces an impressive 60 cubic litres of water per hour and is expected to benefit hundreds of households once the water is fully reticulated across the area. The project marks a major milestone in the county’s broader plan to enhance water supply in fast-growing urban and rural settlements.

During the developmental tour, Governor Lenku also opened new market stalls in Namanga to support local traders dealing in ushanga products. The stalls, strategically located to attract travellers between Kenya and Tanzania, are designed to provide a clean and organized trading environment for small-scale entrepreneurs.

“Our priority is to create conducive environments for our business community,” the Governor stated, emphasizing his government’s focus on empowering local traders and boosting cross-border commerce.

In addition to the borehole and market stalls, the Governor inspected the ongoing construction of the ultra-modern Namanga Retail Market, a major infrastructure project being implemented by the National Government. The market is expected to transform Namanga into a vibrant commercial hub, improving livelihoods and strengthening the town’s role as a key gateway between Kenya and Tanzania.

Governor Lenku was accompanied during the tour by Matapato South Ward MCA David Mutunkei and several senior County Government officers.

The visit underscored the county’s commitment to implementing people-centered projects that directly address local needs in water, trade, and infrastructure development.
