KeNHA extends closure of Bomas–Kiserian Road for culvert installation

The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has announced an extension of the temporary closure of sections along the Bomas–Kiserian (B19) Road to facilitate ongoing construction works. The affected stretch runs from Brookhouse/Galleria at kilometre 0+500 to a point just after the Catholic University of Eastern Africa (CUEA) junction at kilometre 1+000.

The closure will took effect today, October 20, 2025, and will continue until December 1, 2025. KeNHA explained that the traffic interruption is necessary to allow for the construction of two box culverts along the busy corridor. The project is part of scheduled improvement works aimed at enhancing road drainage and ensuring better safety for motorists during rainy seasons.

During the construction period, KeNHA has advised motorists to use alternative routes to avoid delays. Drivers heading toward Kiserian or Magadi Road are directed to use either Langata Road through Langata South Road, Kiboko Road, Banda Lane, and then Magadi Road, or Langata Road through Langata South Road, Kiboko Road, Mukoma Road, and re-join at Magadi Road near the Shell Petrol Station.

The highways authority has urged motorists to follow diversion signs and instructions from traffic police and marshals who will be deployed on-site to manage movement. KeNHA has also encouraged drivers to plan their travel early and remain patient throughout the road works period.

According to the notice, the project seeks to improve drainage and strengthen the road’s structure, which will contribute to smoother and safer transport along the Bomas–Kiserian route once completed. The temporary closure is expected to cause some inconvenience, but KeNHA has assured the public that the works will be completed within the scheduled time frame.
