The County Assembly Committee on Education and Vocational Training has raised alarm over the deteriorating state of Namelok Vocational Training Centre in Kajiado South, citing stalled infrastructure projects, inadequate learning tools, and poor sanitation standards.
During an inspection visit to the institution, the committee observed that several key development projects had remained incomplete for years, despite vocational training being a fully devolved function under county government oversight.
The committee expressed concern that the continued neglect was undermining the quality of technical education and skill development in the region.
In one of the most troubling findings, the vehicle mechanics workshop was found to rely on a car shell without an engine for demonstrations, highlighting the lack of essential equipment required for practical training. Committee members said the situation was unacceptable and called for immediate intervention to equip the workshops with functional tools.

The committee also noted that tutors and trainees were sharing sanitation facilities, a practice they said compromised both dignity and hygiene within the institution. They urged the county government to prioritize the construction of separate and adequate washrooms to uphold basic standards of health and safety.
Additionally, the committee emphasized the urgent need to fence the institution to enhance security for learners, staff, and existing infrastructure. Members warned that without proper fencing, the centre remained vulnerable to vandalism and unauthorized access.
The MCAs also pledged to push for budgetary allocations and oversight to ensure institutions like Namelok are not left behind.
