Family demands justice after man allegedly pushed from moving Super Metro bus

A family is demanding urgent police action after a 25-year-old man was allegedly pushed from a moving Super Metro bus and run over along the Kitengela–Namanga Highway.

Joseph Mureithi, a petrol attendant from Athi River, had just finished work when the tragic incident occurred on Tuesday night. According to accounts from passengers, he boarded an overcrowded Super Metro bus heading to Nairobi from Kitengela around 11pm.

Witnesses say that less than a kilometre into the journey, Mureithi was pushed out of the moving bus. The same vehicle reportedly ran over him before speeding off, leaving him fatally injured on the roadside.

The bus was later intercepted by a Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) patrol vehicle and detectives impounded it. The driver and conductor are now in police custody as investigations continue. The bus, registered KDK 060H, has been taken to Athi River Police Station.

Speaking on the loss, a family member said Mureithi had recently secured a job to help pay for his ailing mother’s hospital bills. “He was the firstborn, always supporting the family. Now he has been taken from us in such a senseless manner,” the relative said.

Super Metro management expressed regret over the incident, stating that they are still investigating the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.

Mureithi was pronounced dead on arrival at Shalom Hospital. An autopsy is scheduled for today and police are urging anyone with information to come forward.
