Governor Lenku outlines health gains, revenue growth in State of the County address

Governor Joseph Ole Lenku on February 18 delivered the State of the County Address at the County Assembly, highlighting progress in health services, revenue growth and reforms aimed at strengthening service delivery across Kajiado.

In his address to the Assembly, Lenku outlined key milestones achieved over the past year and set out the county’s development agenda for the months ahead, calling for closer collaboration between the Executive and the Assembly.

The Governor cited expanded access to medical services, improved maternal healthcare and increased uptake of health insurance as major gains in the health sector. He urged residents to register with the Social Health Authority (SHA), saying higher enrolment would help the county move closer to achieving universal health coverage.

On land reforms, Lenku said the county government is working to address historical land injustices while promoting sustainable land use practices. He noted that safeguarding land for future generations remains central to Kajiado’s long-term development strategy.

Addressing the recurring drought that has affected pastoral communities, the Governor pointed to ongoing livestock vaccination programmes and the desiltation of water pans as part of measures to cushion residents against the effects of climate change.

Lenku also reported a 41 per cent increase in Own Source Revenue (OSR), attributing the growth to enhanced efficiency and the roll-out of a cashless revenue collection system designed to improve transparency and accountability.

The Governor further spoke on the return of Amboseli National Park to local management, outlining plans centred on conservation, community participation and sustainable tourism to boost local livelihoods.

He concluded by emphasizing the need for unity between the two arms of the county government to accelerate development and improve service delivery for residents.
