The tarmacking of the 70-kilometre Ngong–Kibiko–Kimuka–Ewuaso Enkidong–Suswa road has been completed, marking the end of years of delays and intermittent construction that saw the contractor repeatedly leave and return to the site. The final section connecting to Suswa was completed this week.
The new road creates a direct and reliable transport corridor between Kajiado and Narok counties, eliminating the need for motorists to pass through Nairobi County and Central Kenya. Travel time to Narok town is now expected to reduce by more than an hour.
It also opens a vital connection to Kisii,Bomet Migori, and Kericho counties, with travellers from the regions already using the road and significantly cutting down their journey time.
The Sh4 billion project was launched in August 2018 by President William Ruto, who at the time served as Deputy President. It was originally slated for completion within two years.

Residents, business owners, and investors from the connected counties have welcomed the development. John Nampaso, a local resident, said the new road will make travel to Narok town easier by avoiding heavy congestion in Nairobi and the hazardous Maai Mahiu–Narok escarpment, a route frequently crowded with long-distance trucks.
The road is expected to reduce disruptions caused by frequent flooding along the Narok–Maai Mahiu section by providing a shorter and safer alternative. With improved drainage and all-weather usability, the route is anticipated to remain open 24 hours a day, even during periods of unpredictable weather.
Local leaders and tourism stakeholders say the completion of the road will enhance tourism and stimulate economic growth in both counties.
They expect improved safety, faster travel, and greater accessibility to attract more visitors and promote investment across the region.
