The International Day of Persons Living with Disabilities was marked globally today with communities coming together to promote inclusion and dignity for persons with disabilities. In Ongata Rongai Ward, Kajiado North, the local celebration aligned with the worldwide call for stronger support systems, equal opportunities and recognition of caregivers who play a vital role in disability welfare.
Early today, Kajiado County Women Representative Leah Sankaire joined children and persons living with disabilities in Ongata Rongai Ward to commemorate the International Day of Persons Living with Disabilities.
The colourful gathering brought together caregivers, families and community members who work daily to support children with special needs. During the event, the caregivers were recognized for their tireless commitment and the vital role they play in nurturing and safeguarding the well-being of these children.

Leah Sankaire emphasized that the county will continue championing policies that create a better and more inclusive environment for persons living with disabilities. She noted that the agenda focuses on equal access to opportunities, support through assistive devices and accessories and expanded education opportunities through bursaries and scholarships.
She also expressed gratitude to the partners who made the event successful. The Lottery Club of Ongata Rongai and The Autism Foundation International (TAFI) were appreciated for their strong support and collaboration in advocating for disability inclusion across the county.
The commemoration highlighted the ongoing need to empower PWDS and strengthen systems that ensure they live dignified, fulfilled and supported lives.
