Sunkuyia launches construction of Ksh75 million Birika Olooloitikoshi modern market

Kajiado West Member of Parliament (MP) George Sunkuyia has launched the construction of the Birika Olooloitikoshi Modern Market in Keekonyokie Ward, a Ksh75 million government project that is expected to reshape the growing satellite town into a vibrant commercial centre.

The groundbreaking event was held on Friday, November 14, 2025 morning in the presence of officials from the National Government and the State Department for Housing.

The MP described the project as a major investment in the future of local trade and community welfare. He noted that the new market is part of a wider plan by the government to modernise public facilities and support residents who rely on small and medium scale businesses for their livelihoods.

The market will host more than 500 traders once completed and will feature a range of improved amenities aimed at creating a cleaner, safer and more organised business environment. The design includes upgraded trading stalls, a dry store, a cold room for perishable products, a community social hall, a borehole and a child care centre.

It will also have an ICT hub with a youth computer laboratory to support digital skills and new economic opportunities. A cabro paved parking area has also been included to ease congestion and improve movement within the market.

MP Sunkuyia said the development will strengthen economic activity in Birika and Olooloitikoshi while promoting better service delivery in one of Kajiado’s fastest growing urban zones. He added that increased investment in such projects helps empower traders and builds a stronger foundation for long term growth in the region.

The Birika Olooloitikoshi Modern Market now moves into its construction phase as part of ongoing efforts by the government to enhance infrastructure and create supportive spaces for business across Kajiado County.
