The Tanathi Water Works Development Agency (TWWDA) has reaffirmed its commitment to delivering reliable water access to residents of Kajiado and the Lower Eastern region, targeting domestic use, irrigation, and livestock sustainability.
Speaking during an inspection tour of the Sh17 million Kaya Earth Dam project in Kitui County, TWWDA Board Chairperson Regina Ndambuki said the agency is implementing long-term solutions to mitigate the devastating effects of drought, particularly the loss of livestock in arid and semi-arid areas.
“Livestock keeping is the main economic activity for the people of Kajiado and parts of Lower Eastern. When animals die due to lack of water, families lose their primary source of income. As Tanathi, we are determined to address this challenge,” Ndambuki said.

She noted that the Kaya Earth Dam, which is already 60 percent complete, will serve at least 150 households upon completion. The project is part of a broader strategy to expand water infrastructure in underserved areas.
Ndambuki said the agency’s efforts align with President William Ruto’s Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda, which prioritizes equitable access to essential services. “We are implementing water projects in remote areas like Kaya to make clean and reliable water accessible to people at the grassroots,” she said.
The board expressed satisfaction with the contractor’s progress, citing quality workmanship and adherence to timelines.
The agency has pledged to continue expanding its footprint across the region, with a focus on climate resilience, food security, and community empowerment through sustainable water access.
