A man wanted in the United States for murder and drug-related offences has been arrested in Ongata Rongai, Kajiado County, and now faces extradition proceedings following a warrant issued by the U.S. District Court for the District of Minnesota.
The suspect, identified as Muhumed, is accused of causing the death of Samantha Myers on April 22, 2022, by allegedly selling her drugs laced with fentanyl a potent synthetic opioid linked to a surge in overdose deaths across the U.S. Authorities say Muhumed fled Minnesota shortly after the incident and entered Kenya in an attempt to evade prosecution.
His arrest on October 29 was the result of coordinated efforts between Kenyan law enforcement and international agencies. The prosecution has cited the case as an extraditable offence under Kenyan law, noting that the charges meet the dual criminality threshold outlined in Section 4 of Cap. 76, meaning the alleged crimes are punishable under both U.S. and Kenyan statutes.

Muhumed faces multiple charges under Minnesota law, including Third-Degree Murder (Statute 609.205(1)), Manslaughter in the Second Degree for culpable negligence (Statute 609.195(h)), and distribution of controlled substances classified under Schedule I and II. He is also charged with a First-Degree Drug Offence involving over 100 grams of narcotics within a 90-day period, in violation of Minnesota Statute 152.021.1(4) and Title 18 of the United States Code, Section 1073.
Legal experts say the case underscores growing international cooperation in tracking fugitives accused of transnational crimes, especially those involving narcotics and public health risks.
If extradited, Muhumed will stand trial in Minnesota, where fentanyl-related deaths have prompted aggressive legal and policy responses.
Sources close to the case indicate that formal requests have been submitted and are under review.
