Kajiado Leaders Rally for Peace After Isinya Clashes Stir Ethnic Tensions

Leaders from Kajiado County have issued a strong appeal for peace and unity following recent clashes in Isinya town, urging residents to reject violence and embrace coexistence across ethnic lines.

Speaking during Mashujaa Day celebrations in Kitengela, Governor Joseph Ole Lenku emphasized that Kajiado County thrives on diversity and must not allow isolated incidents to fracture its social fabric.

“It is unfortunate that in the recent past, there has been violence between two communities in Isinya town, and that is not the true reflection of Kajiado County,” Lenku said. “I want to urge Isinya residents in particular to maintain peace and coexist harmoniously.”

Lenku called on Kaputiei North MCA Joshua Olowuasa and Kajiado East MP Kakuta Ole Maimai to lead efforts in resolving the tensions through dialogue and community engagement. He pledged to work closely with County Commissioner James Taari to support reconciliation and long-term peacebuilding.

Taari warned that instability undermines development and investor confidence. “Peace is our most valuable resource. We must jealously guard it. For our businesses to flourish and for our communities to thrive, we must maintain peace,” he said.

Kakuta Ole Maimai also urged calm, stating, “Violent confrontations can never be the solution. We must build bridges, not walls.”

Local elders have since initiated peace talks between the affected communities, with authorities confirming that calm has been restored.

The clashes, which erupted on October 9 following a dispute between rival factions, left several people injured and four motorcycles torched. Tragically, one elderly man succumbed to complications from teargas used by police to disperse protestors.
