Several people were injured on Sunday following a serious road accident along Magadi Road between Bangladesh (Bangla) and Maasai Lodge Stage. The crash involved a 14-seater matatu belonging to Expresso Sacco and a saloon car, both of which plunged into River Mbagathi after the collision.
According to witnesses, the matatu was heading towards Ongata Rongai when it collided with the oncoming saloon car at a section of the road known for sharp turns and poor visibility. The impact forced both vehicles off the tarmac and into the river below, trapping several passengers inside.
Residents and passers-by quickly rushed to the scene to rescue the victims before emergency teams arrived. Several of the injured were taken to nearby hospitals in Ongata Rongai and Kiserian for treatment. Others with minor injuries were treated on-site.

Police officers from Ongata Rongai later arrived to secure the scene, manage traffic, and begin investigations into the cause of the crash. The recovery of the two vehicles took several hours, leading to heavy traffic along the affected section of Magadi Road.
Authorities have not yet confirmed the exact number of casualties, but preliminary reports indicate that several passengers sustained serious injuries. Both vehicles were extensively damaged.
The accident has renewed concerns about the safety of the Magadi Road stretch, which has recorded several accidents in recent months. Drivers and commuters have often cited reckless driving, over speeding, and narrow lanes as major causes of collisions along the route.
Motorists have been advised to exercise caution while using the road, especially between Bangla and Maasai Lodge Stage which is on a inclined area, as police continue investigations into the incident.
