Kajiado Governor Joseph Ole Lenku paid an emotional tribute to the late former Prime Minister and ODM Party Leader, Raila Amollo Odinga, describing him as the most quintessential leader of our time.
Ole Lenku said the news of Odinga’s passing reached him in disbelief and sorrow. He remarked, “Like many Kenyans and other persons across the world, I received the news of the demise of my ODM Party Leader, Former Prime Minister, the Right Honourable Raila Odinga after an illness, in utter shock and disbelief.”
The governor described the loss as one that deeply shakes the country, noting that it was a loss of unimaginable magnitude to our Nation because of his unmatched and unrivalled struggle for Kenya’s liberation and successive stability of our nation in the face of tense political moment.
Reflecting on their recent engagements, Ole Lenku said they had closely worked together in preparations for the ODM Party’s 20th anniversary. “It is only recently that we consulted closely about events related to the celebrations of 20 years of our Party, ODM,” he said.

He went on to describe Odinga as both a mentor and a personal influence, saying, “I personally feel the loss as Mr Odinga was part of my political life in the last three years and had become one of my greatest mentors.”
On behalf of his constituents, the Maa community and his own family, the governor extended heartfelt condolences, stating, “On behalf of myself, my family, the great people of Kajiado and the Maa Nation in general, I express my deepest sympathies to his family, our President, H.E William Samoei Ruto, ODM Members and indeed, all Kenyans who looked up to Mr Odinga for leadership, guidance and inspiration.”
He concluded his message with a solemn tribute, saying, “Rest Well, Jakom! Your legacy will live on among us forever.”
Governor Lenku’s message captured the grief felt across the country as Kenyans mourn the man who shaped the nation’s democracy through decades of resilience and service.
