ODM @20 Celebrations in Kajiado Postponed Following Raila Odinga’s Death

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) @20 celebrations scheduled to take place today in Kajiado County have been postponed following the sudden death of party leader and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.

Odinga passed away earlier today while undergoing treatment in India, sending shockwaves across the country and prompting an outpouring of grief from political leaders, supporters, and citizens alike.

The Kajiado event was part of a nationwide series of commemorations marking two decades since the founding of ODM, a party that Odinga led with distinction through Kenya’s most turbulent and transformative political chapters.

Kajiado Governor Joseph Ole Lenku confirmed the postponement, stating that the celebrations would be rescheduled to a later date. In a heartfelt tribute shared on his official social media platforms, Lenku described Odinga as “the most consequential leader of our time,” and mourned the loss of a mentor and national icon. He noted that they had recently consulted on the ODM @20 plans, making the loss even more personal.

“It is a loss of unimaginable magnitude to our nation,” Lenku said, adding that Odinga’s legacy of liberation, resilience, and political mentorship would live on among the people of Kajiado and the wider Maa Nation.

The postponement of the event reflects the somber mood across the country, with ODM members and Kenyans from all walks of life pausing to reflect on the life and legacy of a man who shaped Kenya’s democratic journey for over four decades.
