A severe water shortage has hit parts of Kajiado County, with residents in Entonet Lenkism Ward’s lower belt specifically Injukita, Meshenani, and Inkiito raising alarm over the lack of access to safe and clean water.
The communities are now appealing to the county government to urgently extend the Oltukai water supply to their area, citing the salinity of existing borehole water as a major health and usability concern.
Locals say the situation has worsened in recent weeks, with households, schools, and livestock struggling to cope. “We are relying on salty borehole water that is not fit for drinking or domestic use. Our children are falling sick, and our animals are suffering,” said one resident from Meshenani.

The affected areas fall within a semi-arid stretch of Kajiado South, where water scarcity has long been a challenge. However, residents argue that the proximity of the Oltukai water line presents a viable solution if the county government acts swiftly to extend the infrastructure.
Community elders and youth representatives have called on the county’s water department to prioritize the extension, warning that delays could escalate health risks and deepen the region’s vulnerability to drought.
County officials are yet to issue a formal response, but local administrators have acknowledged the urgency of the matter and promised to escalate the request to the relevant departments.
