Kajiado County to Launch Mass Livestock Vaccination Drive Targeting Over 1.8 Million Animals

The County Government of Kajiado is set to roll out a large-scale livestock vaccination campaign beginning 7th October 2025, with the official launch scheduled at Oloosuyian Village in Kajiado Central Constituency.

The campaign aims to vaccinate approximately 350,000 cattle and 1.5 million sheep and goats across all sublocations in the county.

The initiative, led by the county’s Department of Veterinary Services, will be implemented in partnership with 25 Ward Vaccination Committees comprising Community Disease Control Committees (CDDCS), Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs), and both national and county administrators.

Ten FPOs across the county will support the rollout of vaccines against Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) and Peste des Petits Ruminants (PPR), two major threats to livestock health and productivity.

Livestock owners are urged to present their animals at designated community crushes according to the Ward Vaccination schedules. The county government has emphasized the importance of full participation to safeguard animal health, improve market access, and protect livelihoods dependent on pastoralism and livestock trade.

The campaign is expected to enhance disease control, reduce economic losses, and strengthen food security in one of Kenya’s most livestock-reliant regions.
