Kajiado County Strengthens Devolution Through Partnership with the State Department for Devolution

Kajiado County is sharpening its focus on devolution, thanks to a strategic partnership with the State Department for Devolution under the Kenya Devolution Support Programme Phase II (KDSP II).

A team from the department, led by national programme coordinator Margaret Osili, spent the day working with county officials to assess progress and identify areas that need improvement. The visit is part of a broader effort to strengthen how counties deliver services and manage resources.

KDSP II is designed to offer counties technical support, monitor performance, and ensure that key governance areas like planning, budgeting, and human resource development are aligned with national standards.

In Kajiado, the programme is helping streamline systems and improve accountability across departments.

The team’s focus was on monitoring and evaluation, with an eye on gaps that could affect service delivery. Officials reviewed documentation, discussed compliance issues, and mapped out corrective actions ahead of a formal assessment.

Human resource lead Winfred Taiko said the county is committed to improving internal systems and welcomes the support. “This kind of collaboration helps us stay on track and deliver better results for our people,” she said.
