Lenku Hails World Serve’s Water Projects, Urges Tech-Driven Expansion

Governor Joseph Ole Lenku has commended World Serve International for its transformative Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) initiatives in Kajiado County, describing the partnership as a game-changer for health, livelihoods, and community resilience.

Speaking during a courtesy call by World Serve’s Kenya Country Director David Kang’ethe and his team, Lenku praised the organization’s efforts in drilling and equipping 37 boreholes over the past four years, significantly improving access to clean and reliable water in the semi-arid region.

“These water points have improved the quality of life for our people, restored dignity, and strengthened resilience in the face of drought. We are deeply grateful for this partnership,” Lenku said.

World Serve has also rolled out menstrual hygiene support in schools through Project GRL, distributing Sifa sanitary pads and undergarments to 7,551 girls across 74 schools. The initiative has helped reduce absenteeism and empowered adolescent girls to stay in school and pursue their dreams.

The organization has also introduced sustainable agriculture training, equipping communities with drip irrigation kits from Netafim (Israel) at water sites. The programme is boosting food security and productivity for households and schools.

Governor Lenku urged World Serve to expand its support by integrating smart technologies for borehole monitoring and management. He emphasized the county’s interest in adopting data-driven systems and remote tools to ensure long-term functionality and reduce water point downtime.

“We look forward to deepening our collaboration with World Serve International, guided by innovation and shared purpose, for the continued betterment of our communities,” Lenku added.
