Partners for Care donates mobility carts to PWDs in Kajiado West

By Obegi Malack

Partners for Care Kenya has donated two mobility carts to people living with disabilities (PWDs) and 30 walking sticks to the elderly in Esonorua, Keekonyokie Ward, Kajiado West Constituency, with a call to the Maasai community to enroll children with disabilities in school.

Speaking during the donation exercise, Mary Wanganga, head of the Department of Mobility Carts and Devices at Partners for Care, urged the community to stop discriminating against PWDs and ensure they receive equal treatment. She noted that the organization has supported Kenyan communities for over 12 years by distributing mobility carts and walking sticks to reduce poverty and improve livelihoods.

“So far, we have donated over 200 mobility carts in Kajiado County. Our mission is to empower persons with disabilities while also appreciating the elderly by providing them with walking sticks,” Wanganga said.

Magadi Ward MCA Isaac Kiresian commended the well-wishers, urging the community to use their rich culture for empowerment rather than exclusion.

Nancy Milanoi, CEO of Naretu Maa, a community-based organization, echoed the call, urging an end to harmful cultural practices such as Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) and early marriages. Milanoi, herself a survivor of the practices, said she is committed to fighting the traditions that hinder progress in society.

Kajiado County Head of Protocol, Jenipher Moinkett, also praised the donors for supporting PWDs, promising that the county government would continue working closely with partners to uplift vulnerable groups.

Among the beneficiaries was seven-year-old Naperia, who is yet to be enrolled in school. Her parents appealed to well-wishers to help them enroll her in a boarding school.

Since the election of former Kajiado County Woman Representative Janet Teiyaa who lives with a disability, many PWDs in the county have come forward to demand equal representation, breaking the past culture of hiding them away from decision-making spaces.
